Raw Dog Food Questions

Yes, raw food is safe for dogs to eat.

Dogs are natural carnivores with long, sharp teeth designed for eating meat. Their digestive tract secrets enzymes that enable them to safely consume raw meat and their stomach acids are strong enough to kill off most pathogenic bacteria. Because raw food is minimally processed and has been spared the heating process, it contains vital nutrients and enzymes that dogs need to efficiently digest their food and grow properly.

Acabonac Pet Food is completely raw; meaning that is has not undergone any cooking process. The meat, produce and seeds in Acabonac Pet Food are all in their basic raw form, as you would find in nature. Making it the healthiest choice for your dog.

Yes, many veterinarians recommend raw dog food because of the superior health benefits offered by a raw diet.  Although dogs have eaten a raw diet in the wild for millions of years, it has only recently become commercially available.  Awareness and popularity of raw dog food is growing quickly.

Absolutely! In fact some dogs who have spent much of their lives on a kibble diet prefer Acabonac Pet when it has been cooked first.

To cook: gently warm Acabonac Pet in a clean non stick fry pan (do not use oil), allow to cool to a comfortable temperature and serve!

As a rule of thumb, adult dogs eat 2-3% of their body weight per day.

Puppies may require 50-75% more food depending on growth rate. For gestating/lactating females, you should consult with your veterinarian.

 DAILY FEEDING GUIDELINES

Keep frozen until ready to use. Measure your pet’s meal portion when frozen, according to the feeding guidelines

Defrost your pet's daily portion by thawing in our plastic packaging in the refrigerator for approximately 6-8 hours. Some liquid when completely thawed is normal. Patties may be kept refrigerated for 2-3 days and should be cold to the touch when served. We recommend feeding raw food in a stainless steel bowl. Always have ample fresh water available at meal time. Do not microwave

If you’re not ready to fully transition to raw dog food or a 100% raw diet isn’t an option for you, Acabonac Pet can be used as a nutritious topper.  Using Acabonac Pet as a topper over a premium (grain free, preservative free) kibble or canned food can add vital high quality nutrients to your pet’s food.  Even a partial raw diet can provide benefits to your dog, helping with multiple issues such as skin problems and arthritis.

Most available dog toppers are either cooked or dehydrated products. They are produced using high heat that destroys much of the nutrients found in raw meat.  Acabonac Pet raw patties leave nutrients as natural and nutrient dense as possible, the way canines have eaten for millions of years.

Most dogs transition to our food very easily. Here are some helpful tips:

1 - Treats first!

Introduce Acabonac Pet to your dog by offering a small amount as a treat or reward. Over the course of a few days, gradually increase the “treats” and monitor your dog’s poop to make sure that he is digesting it properly and does not have any digestive issues or diarrhea. Should your dog experience any digestive issues, decrease the amount, and offer it more slowly and at longer intervals.

2 - Replace a Meal

Once your dog has accepted the “treat” size portions of Acabonac Pet, try replacing one of his meals with a full portion of Acabonac Pet, always monitoring his poop for any signs of digestive issues. We do not recommend that you combine Acabonac Pet with his dry kibble as the rates of digestion are very different and this may cause stomach discomfort and digestive problems.

3- Graduate to 100% Acabonac Pet

Once you have replaced 1 full meal successfully with Acabonac Pet for several days, try replacing your dog’s entire daily food intake with Acabonac Pet. Always monitor your dog’s poop as it is your best guide and adjust accordingly.

The transition for puppies may be much faster and may take more time for senior dogs. Remember, you know your dog best. Watch your dog’s cues and you will find the correct pace for him.
